Has there ever been a time in your life when you’ve read about the benefits of exfoliation and jumped straight on the bandwagon by buying a huge pile of scrubs? These are expensive abrasives that have so many chemicals in them!
What if I told you that there is a simple way to slough off all the dead cells from your body?
Sounds too good to be true?
To top it all off, it also doesn’t have a single chemical in it and you can just use things you’d find in your house to make it.
Here is a simple 4 ingredient exfoliant that will leave your skin polished, moisturised and sans dead cells!
1 part Coconut Oil
1 part Ground Coffee
1 part Sea Salt
Few drops of an Essential Oil (optional)
How To Make It:
Use completely liquified coconut oil, heat it lightly it if it isn’t liquid and let it cool down to room temperature.
I personally love buying coffee beans and grinding them to powder. That way you can ensure that the coffee is unadulterated and see how granular you want it to be. Grind it finer or coarser depending on the level of exfoliation required.
Mix the sea salt, coconut oil and coffee
Add a few drops of essential oil depending on your skin type:
Clove Oil: For acne prone skin
Geranium Oil: For dry skin
Lavender Oil: For combination skin
These are just the oils that have worked out for me personally but do look into other essential oils that could work for your skin type.
If you wish to break this scrub into more manageable portion sizes here’s a quick tip!
Pour your scrub mixture into an ice tray, pop into the freezer for a few hours, pop the little cubes out and into a little bag. Take a single cube portion of the scrub to your shower when you want beautiful glowing skin.
This eliminates the possibility of water entering the scrub and ruining it.
So let’s break down why each of these ingredients have been incorporated in this quick scrub:
Coconut Oil: While I have waxed eloquent about the benefits of coconut oil in this article, it is extremely beneficial for the skin. It is loaded with antioxidants and lauric acid that help moisturize the skin to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and dark spots.
Coffee Grounds: The caffeine stimulates blood flow and reduces the appearance of stretch marks, eczema, varicose veins, cellulite and age spots. The texture acts as a physical exfoliant and helps eliminate dead cells off the epidermis.
Sea Salt: This an exfoliating treatment used by a lot of spas but you must ensure that the salt is smooth to touch and not very coarse. You want it to exfoliate and not tear your skin! Sea salt is rich in minerals like magnesium and sulfur which can help skin conditions like acne, eczema and psoriasis.
- Essential Oils: A few lines are not enough to express the sheer wonder that are essential oils. Various essential oils work for different skin types differently and must be dealt with very carefully. If you know nothing about essential oils educate yourself before using them. Perhaps I could do so in a later post? Let me know if you would like to know more!
So this is how you can exfoliate your skin naturally, within the comfort of your home, and without spending a ton of cash. Let me know how this scrub fared for you and if you want more DIY All Natural Recipes such as this one!
